The Boston GP-178 is a 5′ 10″ baby grand piano designed by Steinway & Sons and manufactured by Kawai to Steinway specifications. It features a soundboard larger than average for its size, providing a rich tone, and incorporates a hard rock maple inner rim and other components inspired by Steinway’s high-end designs. Key features include a slow-close fallboard, solid Sitka spruce soundboard, and an “Octagrip” pin block for tuning stability.

Design and materials

• Dimensions:

5′ 10″ (178 cm) long, 59 3/4″ (151 cm) wide, and 40″ (102 cm) high with the lid down.

• Soundboard:

Made of solid Sitka spruce and is tapered, with a larger-than-average size for its class to produce a powerful sound.

• Inner/Outer Rim:

Features a laminated hard rock maple inner rim and a laminated Philippine mahogany outer rim, designed for stability and to reflect sound back into the soundboard.

• Pinblock:

Uses an 11-layer “Octagrip” hard rock maple pinblock to improve tuning stability.

• Other components:

Includes Mapes bass strings, a V-pro cast iron plate, and solid brass hardware.

• Pedals: Has three pedals, with the middle pedal being a full sostenuto.
